Die Retainers
A retainer encloses the die pad to concentrate high pressures around the punch during the stroke. Retainers are extruded from high tensile aluminum alloy, and will withstand bottoming pressures of up to 50 tons/ft. of length. Available in lengths up to 16 ft. and in 3 widths to accommodate standard Acrotech die pad systems. Finished part width should not exceed 60% of die pad width.

Basic Die Pad Systems
Solid K·Prene® Die Pad K·Prene® Die Block Pad K·Prene® Wafer Pad
Solid K·Prene® Die Pad
Deflects to form metal under continuous high blankholding pressure before forming action literally wraps blank around punch. Available in three standard widths (see dimensions), and in a maximum of 4ft. lengths, which, in longer retainers, can be butted together. Can be saw-cut to fit any punch or retainer length.
K·Prene® Die Block Pad
Acrotech pad system functions like a solid pad during stroke. Composed of individual 2" long K·Prene® blocks, which fit in standard retainers. No cutting is necessary, and the blocks permit more economical replacements if a short section is damaged. Furnished in 1 ft. long increments only (six 2" blocks per foot).
K·Prene® Wafer Pad
Another advanced die pad system - most efficient when forming lighter gauges (under 16-ga mild steel). K·Prene® "wafers" are stacked in the retainer. Permits increased punch penetration to form severe bends with minimum pad strain and press tonnage. Especially effective for U-forming. Furnished in thicknesses of 1/4" (for 1 x 1" retainers) and 1/2" (for 2 x 2" and 3 x 2" retainers).
Selection of Auxiliary Die Components
K·Prene® Wear Pads K·Prene® Pressure Pads Flexible Stock Backgages
Spring steel deflects up when urethane bulges.Flexible Stock Backgages
K·Prene® Wear Pads
1/8" thick sheet prolongs die pad life - serves as a buffer for protection against punch cuts. Furnished in lengths up to 4 ft. and in width to accommodate standard die pad systems. Wear pad should be as wide as die pad, or 1" wider when forming heavy metals (to protect both part and retainer walls).
K·Prene® Pressure Pads
When forming heavier metals or difficults shapes (like flat bottom U-forming), higher blankholding pressure can be easily generated by inserting a K·Prene® rod in the air channel under die pad. The rod acts like a "spring" to concentrate additional pressures upward. Furnished in lengths up to 4ft., in 1/4", 1/2", and 5/8" diameters.

K-900A
Medium
Pressure
For most V-forming jobs up to & including 11 ga. steel (even exotics). NOT recommended for U-forming. Can V-form mild steel up to 1/4" thick, or radius U-form up to 11 ga., or flat bottom U-form up to 16 ga. Same as 1" and 2" wide pads, but also allows deeper punch penetration to form both wider channels and larger radius bends. For use when deep penetration is required; withstands constant flexing action. For use when very high blankholding pressure is required for heavy metals.
NOTE: General purpose Grade K-900A is recommended for most applications.
K-950A
High
Pressure
Recommended when higher blankholding and forming pressure is required - for example when forming harder or sharper inside radii. However, less punch penetration is possible, and shorter pad life may be expected. Generally used for uncomplicated bends in difficult metals. Most recommended grade, has harder surface & can withstand more abuse (not generally used for deep penetration). Not recommended.
K-800A
Low
Pressure
Recommended for lighter metals (less than 20 ga. mild steel) when long pad life is desired. Also, best grade when limited press tonnage is available or if deeper punch penetration is required for complicated bends in light gages. Not recommended. Most recommended grade for generating additional blankholding pressure.
Press Tonnage Requirements

Tonnage ratings are for forming a 90° bend in mild steel (dry), using a sharp V-punch, and are for guidance only. Lubrication will reduce tonnage requirement.
