Because of low mold costs compared to other molding procedures, custom molding with K•Prene® can be very cost effective for prototype through production.

The molds are generally machined from steel or aluminum, depending on the application, or can even be cast from a flexible mold material using an existing part as a master. This is an excellent option if you are needing just a few parts or lower production. In several cases we are able to roll the mold manufacturing into the cost of the produced urethane parts for substantial cost savings.

Our extensive mold warehouse has seen just about every application from all types of industries.

Regarding sheet, square and round stock we are able to accommodate most sizes. Have a roller that you need recovered? No problem, our vast selection of shaft and tube molds will allow us to pour the urethane to precision. If you need to keep your part proprietary, no problem we have several cataloged molds in our warehouse that we maintain and can pull off the shelf for rapid production.

Often but not always our molds are to get the part to its general size for us to do final machining. We machine these molded parts to your specifications and can hold exacting tolerances. To learn more about urethane machining click here. We have a full machine shop that will service final machining of poured urethane parts as well as machining of the molds themselves. There are times that we are able to make the molds precise enough for us to cast a part ready to use straight from the mold with minimal to no cleanup. This all depends on your product and the results you expect upon completion.

Depending on the resources, time and money available to you there may be the option and advantage of making a mold in house. We have plenty of customers that choose to make molds and send them to us for us to pour our highly durable K-Prene® urethane. The foreseen advantage is complete control of the mold and overall outcome of the part being produced resulting in the potential lowered costs of engineering and manufacturing of the mold in house. Of course this can create unforeseen problems and extend the amount of time it takes to complete the mold making process if we cannot correctly pour the part or there happens to be a mistake in the mold.
